A Week with Warby

A few weeks back, I was contacted by Warby Parker to feature their 5-day Take Home Program. Now, between you and me and the neighbors on the floor below me, I was just a little *wincing* excited. Besides the fact that this is my first feature in collaboration with the actual company, it is also for a product I obsessively collect, as well as a brand I can fully stand behind.
Warby Parker was created by four close friends to create an alternative for the overpriced and bland eye wear in circulation.  There is no reason why eye wear should be expensive. It is a necessity to many, and therefore prices should be reasonable and affordable. Warby Parker gives those who don't have access to the expensive frames a viable option- providing high-quality, good looking (even fashionable!) prescription eye wear at a lower cost. Besides the actual glasses themselves, my favorite aspect of Warby is that for every pair you purchase means a pair is provided for someone in need (think TOMS). This concept always makes me smile, as someone who loves to shop, it's always nice to know that you're helping others less fortunate and that portion of your rent money (teheh) is going to a better cause than just overflowing your closet. But, truly, it's a wonderful idea, and more companies should participate in such a concept.
So I eagerly awaited the arrival of my box from Warby Parker,  and the moment it landed in my hands, I ripped it open, excited to see my selections in person. I was shocked when I realized how sturdy the frames were and how wonderfully modern each one was. Each of the 5 days, I would fiddle around with them see how they look on me, compare the styles to the others, and pretend like they were my actual prescription glasses. I love glasses, I think they are an amazing accessory and a great way to hide your face in the morning pre make-up regimen. I tend to buy frames with regular lenses just so I have more options to pair with my clothes, since frames are normally so expensive, but upon learning about Warby, I think my collection of actual prescription lenses will grow rapidly. I had so much fun choosing which was my favorite; it was a lot of hard work- staring in the mirror.... Check out the ones I chose below and others at Warby Parker.

I met her at Coachella....

THIS WEEKEND I WILL BE AT COACHELLA. It's my 5th year, and it's my version of Christmas. It's the best place to relax and unwind, and just have an amazing experience. All my friends go, there's always great music to listen to and discover, delicious food to eat, beautiful people and smiling faces. It's also a fashion show. Over the years, I've noticed, that not only do I have a specific uniform for the festivities, but there is definitely somewhat of a dress code. It's very indie, high waisted shorts are a must, the less clothes the better, and anything lace or embroidered is perfect. Of course, you can pair it with a flower headband and a little pair of ankle boots, and you're good to go. This year, I have wayyyyy too many outfits for the three days. But, I'm better safe than sorry. Here's a little insight into my planning process! Hope you enjoy and if you have any suggestions, I'm interested to hear! Check out dem apples...

Flowers and Purchase of the Week

Spring is upon, and boy, can I tell. Flowers are blooming everywhere, the weather is perfect, and my outfits are lighter. This week, I have beautiful pink Ranunculus in my bedroom- I just can't get enough, they almost surpass all my other favorite flowers to hit the number one spot, but I just can't say for certain. The dining room also has a nice pink flower this week- I'm not sure of the name, however, but I definitely admire their rustic beauty. I also needed a little infusion of spring into my daily wardrobe. My wallet was broken,  and my leopard pony hair purse from River Island was in need a some maintence, so it was perfect excuse for bright colors and floral prints. I discovered this amazing messenger bag, and a coral wallet that was also super functional. They went together so flawlessly, I opted for both, and it was totally okay as I found both at Target. Ahh, the blessing of inexpensive style. It's always important to keep your eye open for whatever finds, maybe even deals, you can encounter. They're everywhere, and your style can be found anywhere, you just got to open yourself up to that attraction, and don't let labels or trends define you.

Shapely

Ever since I've been fawning after fashion, I've absorbed, and I've learned, and I've been able to put forth my own style in the world. I have discovered what I now call the formula, (which I will begin to share as soon as I have the opportunity a.k.a being out of school), but I'd like to give a little preface of it.  Each time, I examine a runway show, or see any editorials or blog posts and so on... I take bits and pieces from each which eventually can be incorporated into a equation that can result in personal style, or outfits. Now, I'm not saying there is an exact equation to have style, it's without a doubt mostly personal and impulsive, but it's about creating an idea in your head so then you can produce it physically. It also helps so that on those days when you're feeling like a blank page, you have something concrete that you can rely on. I wanted to share two of my favorite collections from Paris Fashion Week Fall 2013. Kenzo and Paul Ka manage to take awesome, diverse separates and combine them to make absolutely perfect and unique outfits. So now that I have fell in love with these collections, I take the time to observe them, making sure I am able to take a piece of knowledge from them, helping me to identify a trend or interpret what can be described as fashionable. What I gathered from these collections was the importance on shapes and the ability to play with them. Put a A line over straight legged piece, or you can even dare to double up on a shape- they each have versatility, make sure to use it. Layering them also helps to create a range of possibilities and mixing and matching also proves understanding of a piece and it's purpose in your wardrobe. Playing with shapes makes the outfit appealing aesthetically, as well as helping to define your abilities in styling.  I will begin to outline the formula even more over the next few months, in hopes of helping those on a quest for style and inspiring those with their own. Also, follow me on Bloglovin' and I'll follow you back!
